The other day, I was visiting a popular marketing forum and someone asked if they could make money building a website catered to Video Games and Marijuana.
They said they were passionate about marijuana, and were asking fellow entrepreneurs for a feasibility analysis.
A lot of people spoke out and bashed the guy’s creativity and desire, and said it was a foolhardy idea.
Naturally, it was a “face-palm” situation upon which many disgruntled curmudgeons answered the question without any idea of what they’re talking about. (They indicated no knowledge of marketplace awareness, supply/demand, demographics, or current events).
Any Smart Entrepreneur Knows Marijuana is Money Hand Over Fist – Period
I have to laugh at those who contested the inquiry from our fellow entrepreneur.
Don’t they watch the news?
Don’t they know that “Marijuana” blatantly surpasses common search terms like “Make Money Online”, “Online Marketing”, “Search Engine Optimization”, and “Blogging”… Combined? (Source: Google Trends)
Don’t they know that Colorado is desperately trying to maintain inventory for the world’s biggest cash crop since CORN?
This Proves that You Need to Watch Where You Get Your Information From
There’s so much misinformation on the Interwebs that it’s literally mind-blowing. As someone who was trolling back when AOL was in its heyday, I can tell you that the propensity for information overload is at an all-time high. (No pun intended). – So be careful where you obtain information.
The truth? Marijuana is a BOOMING topic right now, and marijuana is a billion-dollar business… And those figures are guaranteed to increase with laws easing all across the country.
So my answer? Marijuana is absolutely a Cash Crop, and I’m confident there’s a BOATLOAD of cash to be made in the online marijuana market – especially when considering what the immediate future holds. (Mass legalization).
The Marijuana Niche is Red Hot
The topic of Marijuana is HOT right now, and you can definitely build a list (or a niche website) based upon Marijuana without question.
It’s my hypothesis that the popularity of marijuana and demand for marijuana content is going to skyrocket exponentially in the next decade as the market evolves into maturity.
But What About Zombies?
To change gears for a moment, let me talk about the MrComputerScience.com newsletter and how the majority of businesses are struggling, and how a thorough knowledge of zombies can be paramount to a newbie’s success.
My email newsletter sends emails to thousands of people every day.
(ps: you can subscribe here).
As a result, I often get a boatload of responses and replies… Mostly questions.
Do you know what I’ve learned from the interaction with subscribers?
I’ve Learned that Most Entrepreneurs are Dead Broke
At least – that’s my observation.
Who can blame them? The world economy is tanked, nobody’s buying, and the Olympics are in Ice Cold Sochi.
But What About the Real People? People Like You?
The majority of subscribers I talk to are struggling to make money online with their business.
In all probability you’re in the same boat.
I can relate – I’m the worst entrepreneur on the planet and am more of a tech nerd than anything else.
But… There’s good news.
Because my propensity with metaphors has lead me to a recent revelation…
And It Makes Me Think About A Ravenous Pack Of Zombies…
Seriously.
One thing most newbie entrepreneurs forget to do, is determine precisely who their demographic is.
I see people buying traffic without any funnel or idea of how to follow up with leads.
I see people blogging daily without any idea of what type of customer they want to attract.
I see people emailing me telling me they’ve been ripped off by the latest guru.
Trust me, I can relate to all of this.
You Need to Think in Terms of Ravenous Zombies
Before you get your hands dirty?
Before you buy traffic? Before you build a social media following? Before you build your app?
Make sure you know who your audience is.
And Ask Yourself… “If my audience was a pack of ravenous zombies… would they devour my offer?”
That’s really what it comes down to.
The notion of having a credible audience. A hungry audience. An audience so starving for what you’re providing, that they can’t help but immediately consume it.
That’s how you know when your niche idea, website idea, or business idea will have the social leverage required in today’s marketplace.
There’s a Hidden Lesson in There
I just outlined a metaphorical system to ensure that your business idea is feasible, by comparing your business to zombies.
Now think for a moment upon the guy who asked about the Marijuana niche…
Does that niche meet the criteria?
The smart money says…
“YES”.
:]
Stay cool
