I’m sitting here during the freezing cold winter, and as I look outside we’re experiencing a “bombogenesis”, which is AKA a really big snow storm.
So, I’ve been contemplating about how my 2018 is going so far, and what’s working. I’m also looking at, what’s not working.
I’ve also had a ton of awesome students ask me, what’s the best way to drive traffic? Or to make more sales? Or build rapport with an audience?
My honest two cents is always the same. Email marketing works best, for me at least.
It doesn’t matter if you’re promoting a webinar, promoting a t-shirt, or trying to drive traffic to your fundraiser.
Having an email list is the single most powerful marketing asset, especially if you’re not a massive “guru” with a zillion Twitter followers, and a massive marketing budget.
If you’re a shoestring startup? Or a broke entrepreneur on a budget? Then email marketing rocks.
To make a long story short, I’ve failed at so many things online.
- I’ve built blogs that have totally and epically flopped.
- I’ve spent my life trying to build up certain social media channels, to absolutely no avail.
- I’ve even tried one of the trendy “crypto” blogs that is based upon those weird currencies. Woah, did that ever flop.
- I’ve spent entire seasons of my life building up websites, that are now lost somewhere in history.
Looking back, there’s only one thing that works for me, consistently and reliably.
That one thing, is email marketing.
Why is email marketing so awesome?
Well, it works for me for a number of reasons.
First of all, I’m a massively shy introvert.
A lot of people falsely claim to be an introvert; but I’m the real deal.
I prefer to hide behind the comfort of my monitor(s).
I honestly don’t have much charisma.
So, getting by on my gift of gab definitely isn’t going to fly.
Sure, I have a history of creating a ton of online courses, but I never, not even once, for a second, have appeared on camera. (Okay, I did take a picture once, but, I have never appeared in any videos).
And, believe it or not, my courses are carefully scripted and pre-planned, so very little charisma is required.
Anyway, the point to this rant, is that email marketing is the coolest thing in the world, especially for shy introverts like me (like us).
That’s another reason why email marketing rocks.
Because you don’t have to have a fancy voice to make it work.
All you need, is the ability to write, the ability to help, and hopefully, enough hustle so you can attract email subscribers in the first place.
I would say, that the number one attribute of a successful email marketer, is the willingness, and desire to help others.
If you honestly want to help people, I believe, that email marketing is the best way to do it.
Email marketing is dirt cheap, it’s effective, it’s personal, and after studying computer science, IT, and marketing for well over a decade, it’s the best thing I’ve yet to encounter.
And remember, that there is nothing new under the sun.
All of these fancy new tricks, gadgets, and exploits the big ‘gurus’ are always talking about, are only temporary fads.
Email, has been, and shall be, the primary communicative mechanism of the internet. For at least our lifetimes.
😉
Talk later.
I’m going to go watch the birds outside. I have a ton of bird feeders setup and I feel bad for them because of the ice cold winds, and enduring snow storm.
(Should I invite them inside, I wonder?).
Don’t answer that. I’m just kidding, I hope you know.
Talk later.
