I’ve just spent the last hour reading and watching people argue about free college for all.
It’s a new idea from Bernie Sanders, as he just published new legislation which of course boasts a mightily hefty price tag.
I agree that education is something that no human should have to sell their soul for.
It’s really an unfortunate situation that Americans are finding themselves in more debt every single day to the point where the student debt bubble may just be insurmountable for many new graduates.
However, as you know, the current system simply can’t afford to offer every student free college.
Not All Students Can Get Free College. But All Students Can Get Free Education.
Now hold up! Before you call me a socialist, or call me a hypocrite for selling online courses (lol), let me quickly get to the point.
Free education is definitely possible. Every single human with an internet connection can get FREE education, today, as in, right now.
The Problem Is That, Most Modern Universities Are So Inefficient.
I’m a strong proponent of distance learning. I believe that distance learning, if more widely accepted and used, could afford humans the ability to learn anything at a ridiculously lower cost.
College is way too expensive to provide for free.
However, there are so many ONLINE LEARNING platforms that offer free education.
I’ve enrolled in hundreds of free online courses. Just the other day I was learning how to program really cool Python apps for the new Raspian Operating System, and it didn’t cost me a single red cent.
(I keep ranting about Raspberry Pi and how it rocks, because I recently took an awesome 4-week long course teaching everything about it from some super cool folks. Oh yeah. It was free).
The Point I’m Trying To Make, Is That Free Education Is Already Out There.
Maybe if distance learning, and the way that we humans learn was better centralized, it could reduce cost by 2, 3, 4, or even 100 fold.
So you could spend a few hundred bucks to acquire any education that you want. Instead of a few hundred thousand bucks.
Sound far fetched?
Distance Learning Is Dirt Cheap In Comparison To Traditional College. It’s Centralized, Pre-Recorded, And Super Easy To Create And Maintain.
Well, we’ll eventually get there.
It shall just take the politicians a long time to catch on.
Talk later, and have a beautiful day.
