I’ve been building and analyzing lead capture pages (AKA squeeze pages) for many years now.
Here’s my startling two cents regarding conversions.
Clarity is of the utmost importance, followed by the quality of your lead magnet.
So in other words, if you have an awesome lead magnet that your audience wants, and if your lead capture page is simple and concise, then it’s probably going to convert optimally.
Also, the simpler, the better. And I mean really simple. Simplicity equates to clarity in most cases.
This is just my humble two cents of course.
If you’re wondering about my qualifications, then let me just say that I’ve designed countless-dozens of lead capture pages, and I’ve also generated many-thousands of leads. I’ve been blogging and email marketing since around June of 2010.
I’m not the biggest email marketing expert in the planet, however, the following is my honest two cents and I hope that you at the very least find it to be entertaining.
Please enjoy!
The Most Important Lead Capture Page Strategy
In the following document I’m going to reveal how to build a lead capture page with ClickFunnels, and I’ll also try my best to share some of the most important email marketing and list building takeaways that I’ve ever discovered after being a blogging nerd for quite a while now, lol.
But first, I want to talk briefly about lead capture page strategy, because I think it’s the most important.
Because these days there are so many awesome marketing tools that you can deploy to create amazing looking marketing funnels and creatives, quickly and easily.
(ClickFunnels is my favorite obviously, but there are other options out there too).
The main point of me even mentioning this, is because strategy rules the roost.
So what strategy am I talking about? Quite frankly, I’m referring to your end users, your offer, and your understanding of their deep psychographics.
In other words, do you have an ideal prospect in mind? Do you know what they want? Do you know their problems? And most importantly, do you know how you can help them?
If you know all of this stuff, then it’s going to be so much easier for you to craft amazing lead capture pages, and entire marketing funnels.
But, just remember, that studying and knowing your end users is essential.
It’s why some of the biggest companies on the planet spend so much time studying their end users, polling them, and figuring out more about them.
If you agree with this simple marketing (and economic) principle, then my following 3-step lead generation page process is much cooler, and simpler to use.
Here’s My Favorite Lead Generation Formula That Only Requires 3 Things, Lol.
Since you agree that knowing your end user is vitally important, and since we both agree that having an awesome offer is big-time important, then that one strategy is going to make everything else much easier.
We can rely on our superior understanding of our end users, to help us create awesome marketing creatives.
In this case, let’s brainstorm the perfect lead capture page design strategy and make it super simple. Just a headline, a small call to action, and then an opt-in form.
I honestly thing that simplicity works the best regarding design. At this point in time I have a ton of different email marketing funnels up and running, most of which I promote right here on my blog in the form of content upgrades.
The main point I’m trying to make is that all of my lead capture pages follow that simply criteria.
They contain a small headline, a small call to action, and then an opt-in form.
- Your Lead Capture Page Headline Is the headline that’s right at the top of your lead capture page. Usually mine says something like this “Are you frustrated because you don’t have enough website traffic?”. It’s usually a short sentence, that tickles the frustration of my end user, to the point where hopefully if they’re looking to learn more about the topic, they’ll read the call to action.
- Your Lead Capture Page Call To Action Is actually the main title of my lead capture page. My calls to action are a little different, and kind of backs up my lead capture page headline. Maybe my call to action will say something like “Free Course Shows How To Drive A Ton Of Website Traffic, Opt-In Here To Check It Out”.
- Your Lead Capture Page Opt-In Form Is the actual email autoresponder subscription code that allows your end user to opt-in and receive their gift. Usually I love to have a massive button, with a high contrast color (bright orange is my favorite lol), and I like to have the title of the button “Yes! Download Now!” or “Yes! Let Me In!”, or something along those lines.
I personally find that simple lead capture pages such as this, maybe it really easy to brainstorm awesome lead capture pages quickly, without being a master copywriter, superstar graphic designer, or marketing guru (lol).
Don’t Make Your End Users Get Lost In Complexity! Try To Make Your Lead Capture Page Super Simple To Understand Quickly!
I personally love short and concise marketing pages that get right to the point.
I like all of my marketing creatives to look simple, clear, effective, and easy. Whether it’s a lead capture page, a sales letter, or a one time offer, I try my best for all marketing creatives to have this set of “simple” criteria.
This is just my own personal preference that I love
Here’s my advice.
Make your lead capture page so simple, that your end user understands what they’re getting, and what they’re supposed to do in less than 5 seconds.
That way it’ll be super easy for you to create and brainstorm. The page will also be blatantly clear for your end user.
You don’t have to worry about fancy magic, expensive graphic design features, or complicated marketing hacks.
And heck, maybe you totally disagree, and that’s okay, however, the following statement is my main thesis, and also just my honest two cents.
Aim for simplicity, because if you know your end user demographic enough, then you’ll be able to craft an offer that rocks. That’s how you can make your lead capture page convert more than anything. Makes sense, and seems logical, right?

Why Simple Lead Capture Pages Are The Most Beautiful
I honestly think that simple and plain lead capture pages can definitely outperform beautiful lead capture pages, and yes, as long as your lead capture pages follow simple economic and marketing principles.
Principles such as, having an offer that rocks. Not just any offer though. Your offer has to be brainstormed and designed for your end user. The offer needs to be awesome, and speak directly to the core needs of your target demographic.
If you can craft a genius marketing message, or a piece of content that’s targeted enough, then fancy marketing magic, and beautiful design, is just a bonus to an already amazing offer, right?
One more reason why simple lead capture pages work the best, is because they don’t look like they’re from a “big corporation”, and I honestly believe that being independent helps your reputation these days, because people trust reliable people, not corporations.
Sorry for the rant, but I’ve put a ton of thought about lead capture pages over the years, and find this topic to be fascinating.
An Awesome Exercise So You Can Write Amazing Squeeze Page And Lead Capture Page Copy
My favorite lead capture page and squeeze page copywriting exercise is to simply write down the top 10 frustrations and annoyances that my ideal email subscriber has.
So I’ll literally try to analyze the frustrations of my end users to the point where I know what frustrates them.
Why is this so important? Because if you spend time getting to know the mindset of your ideal email marketing prospect, then you can really begin to craft and design amazing lead capture page headlines, lead magnets, and calls to action that speak to them directly.
So once you start brainstorming the problems that exist in your niche, then you’ll have a much more pleasant time brainstorming awesome lead magnet ideas, right?
How To Promote Your Lead Capture Page On Your Blog
One cool thing that I do is try to turn all of my blogs into promotions that promote my email newsletter.
Another thing that I personally do, is have more than one lead magnet.
So each time I write a blog post, I can think to myself “which lead magnet would make the post sense to promote after this blog post?”.
It can be as simple as adding a tiny call to action at the end of the blog post, inviting my readers to check it out.
I bet if you search around this blog (lol), you’ll notice me sneakily promoting over 17+ different lead magnets throughout my content.
That way, I have an entire assortment of different lead magnets that I can promote wherever it makes sense.
If I create content that talks about blogging, then I have some really cool lead magnets that bloggers will like.
If I’m writing about email marketing, then I have some cool lead magnets that email marketers will like. And so on.
So it can be really cool to have a ton of different lead magnets, that way, you can create appropriate calls to action when creating different types of blog content.

Know your end users enough to the point where you can brainstorm awesome offers.
Awesome content, awesome webinars, awesome articles, and awesome promotions.
If you know your end users enough, then it’ll be much easier and more fun to design awesome content that’s designed to help them.
