This content is designed for absolutely any entrepreneur interested in building an email list or generating leads, and contains much of my own hard-fought-after wisdom that’s been acquired over the years.
I’ll also talk about some of my favorite marketing strategies that can easily be deployed with any decent sales and marketing funnel software, my favorite being ClickFunnels.
Please enjoy!
The First Thing You Need If You Want To Build An Email List…
The first thing you need if you want to build an awesome email list, is an idea of who your ideal audience is.
This is so important, and often overlooked or neglected.
The reason why this step is so important, is because every single element within your marketing campaign should be based upon a solid foundation of knowledge pertaining to your end user.
So ask yourself, who is your ideal audience, and how do you intend on helping them?
Are you familiar with their core frustrations? What problems are they experiencing as it relates to your niche?
Once You Know Who You Ideal Prospect Is, And What Problems They’re Having, It’s Then Time To Brainstorm An Awesome Lead Magnet
What type of lead magnet are you going to give away in order to entice your end users to subscribe?
Maybe you can create a cheat sheet, a report, craft an awesome newsletter, or maybe even record a short video course?
No matter what the medium of your lead magnet, please never remember that the lead magnet’s main goal is to always provide massive value.
Also, never forget the top 10 frustrations that those in your niche are experiencing.
If you’re cognizant of the real frustrations that your audience has, then it’s going to be infinitely easier to brainstorm amazing marketing campaigns that rock.
Once You Have An Awesome Lead Magnet In Mind, Then It’s Time To Build Your Awesome Marketing Funnel Creatives!
These days, I propose to you that it’s most important to have an ideal prospect in mind, and have a lead magnet that’s truly in high demand.
Once you have an awesome lead magnet, and you can then begin to brainstorm an entire marketing funnel.
If you’re not sure what the core fundamentals of a marketing funnel are, here they are:
- Lead Capture Page – The lead capture page is the first part of your funnel, and is the first page that your end user lands on. This page is designed so that your end user is made aware of your lead magnet, and then they can easily subscribe by inserting their email address.
- Thank You Page – The thank you page is the page that your end user sees immediately after they subscribe. This page can accomplish a bunch of different things, including offering a one time upsell. You can also use your thank you page to promote affiliate products, network marketing products, to introduce yourself, promote your upcoming webinars, or even promote your social media profiles.
- Upsell Page – Your upsell page is when you offer your end user an offer to purchase one of your products or services. So if you’re a coach, consultant, online teacher, author, product vendor, or absolutely anyone who sells anything, then this is your traditional one time offer style sales page.
- Download Page – Your download page is any type of page where your end user can download their products, either free, or premium. This is important because it makes your presentation look all he more professional, and also enables you to cross promote your other products or affiliated offers.
- Membership Page – This is a password protected page where you can provide access to your premium products and services. This is perfect if you want to have an online course, a private member’s area, or maybe even a special bonus for your new subscribers, clients, students, customers, readers, or buyers.
- Webinar Marketing Funnel Page – Webinar marketing funnels are some of the most powerful pages to have, because webinars allow you to teach on any topic that you want, while also selling. In other words, webinars are the perfect lead generation tool, and you can also host webinars to your existing audience to both share content, and to sell.
If You’re Panicking Because You Have No Clue How To Put Any Of These Marketing Creatives Together, Then Don’t Worry!
As someone who has been designing and building webpages since I was a kid, I totally understand how frustrating all of this can be.
Maybe you want to start building an email list, selling your products, and sharing your message with the world, but you’re just not sure how you can start crafting awesome marketing creatives?
If that’s the case, then I totally recommend ClickFunnels.
ClickFunnels rocks, because it can enable you to build all of the marketing creatives mentioned on this page, without knowing a single line of code, or any tech stuff at all.
So if you want to build beautiful lead capture pages, amazing sales pages, awesome webinar marketing funnels, or any type of marketing page, then ClickFunnels is totally worth checking out.
After being a tech nerd for much of my life, and reviewing over a dozen different page builders, ClickFunnels is definitely one of my favorites, plus it’s cloud based so you don’t have to install anything, or worry about any updates or compatibility issues.
Best of all, ClickFunnels has a ton of done for you templates, so you never have to design your marketing creatives from scratch.
But, once you have an awesome marketing funnel, then how do you promote it anyway?
Well, the following contains my two cents after struggling for much of my blogging career trying to generate leads WITHOUT a massive marketing budget.
Here’s How You Can Promote Your Lead Capture Pages And Marketing Funnels
When I first got interested in blogging, what I really wanted to do was build an email list.
I’ve tried it all, and have broken my back finding out what works for me.
Niche blogging, forum posting, paid advertising, banners, Google AdWords, Bing Ads, Facebook groups, LinkedIn groups, product launching, Twitter, Pinterest and a ton of other advertising methods are all things that I’ve tried.
I also love Solo Ads! I have purchased well over 100 Solo Ads, and have a 100% perfect rating on the world’s largest Solo Ad Directory.
(If you’re not familiar, a Solo Ad is an email advertisement, where you pay to advertise in other newsletters).
I’ve even published many dozens of HD video courses, and over 40 Kindle books in an effort to promote my email list.
Before I forget, I also built tons of review blogs designed to promote my email lists.
(I’ve reviewed everything from power generators, solar panels, basketball hoops, video games, marketing software and a ton of other wild topics that I can’t remember).
However, All Of The Advertising And Content Marketing Methods Mentioned Thus Far Are Merely Tactics. Infinitely More Important Is The Strategy.
The main email list building strategy that I personally use, is to have a beautiful email marketing funnel that offers something truly valuable to your audience.
Once you have that funnel, you can focus on promoting it everywhere with content marketing, or paid advertising.
Content marketing is probably my favorite, because it can be super low cost, and also fun if you truly enjoy your niche. (Which, I hope that you do).
So, if you look around on this very blog, you’ll probably notice that I have a few calls to action on the top of my blog, in my navigational menu, and also on the footer of my blog.
That’s at least 3 calls to action, on every single blog post that I ever write.
All of these calls to action, promote my lead capture page.
That way, every single time I write a new blog post, and somebody finds my content in Google, hopefully, they’ll enjoy the content that I try hard to publish, and maybe, if they think my content is cool enough, they’ll agree to join my email newsletter.
Other Methods Of Promoting Your Marketing Funnel With Content Marketing
My advice is always the same.
Create awesome content, and then promote one of your lead magnets at the end of the content.
It doesn’t have to be more difficult than that.
Maybe you could have a short “PS” at the end of the document, inviting your end users to subscribe? Tell your fans that you have an awesome email newsletter, and let them know about the lead magnet that you’re offering as a free gift.
Or, you can do what I do, and offer many different lead magnets. At this point in time, I have 17 different lead magnets that I offer to new subscribers as gifts, and I’ve worked tirelessly over the yaers to ensure that these rock.
My advice? Have many differnet lead magnets, so as you create more and more content, you’ll be able to promote a lead magnet that makes the most senses!
The reason why this overall strategy is absolutely beautiful, is because this doesn’t have to stop at blogging.
If you’re going to create awesome content, and throw it on your blog, why not turn that blog into a YouTube video?
Why not turn that same blog into a Podcast?
That way, you have THREE times as much content out there in the wild, working on your behalf.
You can then promote that blog post, YouTube video, and Podcast on your social media channels.
To me, this is the genius content marketing strategy, and I’m confident that you’ll have a ton of fun promoting your email funnels if you put this to use, especially if you love to create content that helps your prospects!
Remember The Importance Of Your Marketing Funnel! It Empowers All Of Your Marketing Efforts.
Why is the funnel the most important piece of the email list building puzzle?
Well, if you have an email funnel setup and loaded with helpful content, then you have the chance to build a massive relationship with every website visitor that you ever have.
Because you can automate an awesome email campaign, poll your audience, introduce yourself, share some of your best stories, content, presentations, and promotions.
Best of all, with a proper marketing funnel, you can do all of this automatically.
Because your perfect email followup sequence will be delivered reliably to every single subscriber, allowing you to focus on advertising your lead capture pages.
The Only Things You Really Need To Start Your Funnel Off Right Is A Free Gift, A Lead Capture Page, A Thank You Page, And Some Awesome Email Autoresponder Messages.
So maybe you have a gift that your ideal audience would love. Or, you could do what I do and offer many gifts.
Then you have a lead capture page, or many lead capture pages, promoting the gift.
After your website visitors subscribe, they get access to the gifts they requested, and they also start getting your email followups automatically.
You can then turn everything you do into an email list building exercise by promoting that gift everywhere.
- If you have a blog? Promote your lead capture page in your posts.
- If you’re an online teacher? Then promote your lead capture page in your lectures.
- If you’re a social media enthusiast? Then promote your blog posts, videos, and podcasts in your social media profiles.
- If you’re an author? Then promote your lead capture page in your books.
- If you have a marketing budget? Then consider promoting your lead capture page via paid advertising.
The Point Of Me Ranting About This, Is Because Once You Have An Awesome Email Funnel, You Can Just Focus On Driving Traffic And Advertising Your Funnels Through Any Method That You Like.
You won’t have to stress out and manually contact your leads each time someone subscribes.
You won’t suffer from overwhelm or break your back trying to put promotions and content together last second.
With an email funnel locked and loaded, you’re free to be creative with content marketing, blogging, and any other advertising method that might interest you.
