I have to admit something. I’m addicted to reading blogs! I spend hours reading blogs, seemingly every single day.
And, since I’ve spent literally hundreds (if not thousands) of hours reading blogs with RSS tools such as Feedly, I always try my best to keep an eye on trends, and how other bloggers are creating and curating content. I find all of this nerdy marketing stuff to be fascinating.
And, as someone who interacts with a lot of other bloggers, one topic that always comes up is the idea of Guest Blogging.
That’s why I’m writing this blog post, to analyze and dive deeper into the world of Guest Blogging, and to answer questions that a novice blogger might have about this interesting world.
I’m also going to brainstorm more about social media marketing. The reason why I love social media marketing, is because it’s totally free to get started with.
These days, I think that a lot of small business owners and entrepreneurs just don’t have a big marketing budget! So, I’m trying my best to brainstorm some cool methods to promote your blog (or any website) using free (or cheap) methods.
In any event, let’s brainstorm some cool ideas!
What The Heck Is Guest Blogging, And How Does It Work?
Simply put, Guest Blogging is when you publish your blog content, on someone else’s blog.
Simple enough, right?
Well, you might be thinking, “Dude, why the heck would I want to publish my content on someone else’s site?!?”.
The answer, is because you can propose that the other blog allows you to promote YOUR blog on their blog.
That way, you can provide awesome content to the other blog, and hopefully, if their readers think that you and your content are cool, they’ll want to learn more about you, and eventually (hopefully) check out your website! 😉
In My Opinion, Is Guest Blogging Worth The Effort?
I think that guest blogging has a ton of potential, if you can manage to land a really cool blog that wants your content.
Of course, not all blogs are created equal! Publishing an awesome piece of content on a very unknown blog that gets zero traffic probably won’t be worth the effort, right?
But, what happens if you throw an epic Hail Mary pass and an awesome and powerful blog agrees to publish your blog post? That would be sweet, right?
For That Reason, I Think That Guest Blogging Still Has Potential!
Guest blogging is in my opinion, a powerful marketing method perfect for small business owners who don’t have a very large marketing budget.
The reason why guest blogging might be cool, is because you can propose to include a small pitch that promotes your own website at the end of the blog post.
Finding A Good Guest Blogging Partner Requires Work, And Effort!
Anyone who says that guest blogging is easy, is probably trying to sell you something!
So, yes, of course, I think that finding a good place to propose your guest blog post to requires work.
However, I honestly think, that if you spend some time researching popular blogs in your niche, that at least some of them will consider your guest blog posts ideas.
If you want to get started with guest blogging, one idea would be to write down a list of 10 potential blog post ideas that you want to write, and then start emailing different bloggers to see if they would accept your guest blog post.
Let’s Talk More About Social Media Marketing…
Social media marketing rocks, and is probably one of the thriftiest ways that small business owners can get the word out about their products, business, website, blog, email newsletter, or any of their ideas.
The cool thing about social media marketing these days is that there are so many awesome social media channels to choose from.
I’ve personally noticed that it’s easy to get carried away and lose focus with social media marketing, so instead of spreading myself too thin I try to choose a handful of social media platforms that I want to focus on.
That way, I can honestly focus on managing a few social media platforms, following influencers, and interacting and sharing cool stuff that I find relevant to my niche.
For example, I love to run and manage a Pinterest group board, and I also spend a boatload of time on Twitter sharing my content, and also other content pieces that I find interesting.
I think that Pinterest Group Boards are a really cool way to promote your blog posts! To see what a Pinterest Group Board looks like, simply click here to check mine out! It’s a really cool Pinterest Group Board called Share Your Blog With The World!
But, maybe you’re not sure what type of content you should be sharing on social media?
My honest two cents is to simply promote the blog posts that you’re already creating; so, if you love to write content, then definitely consider promoting that on social media.
Commit To Promoting Your Blog Posts!
Maybe if you publish an awesome blog post, you could write a short recap on Twitter, and then create an awesome graphic using Canva and then share that on Pinterest?
Those are two of my personal social media marketing strategies, and it’s also very simple because usually I only focus on those two social media platforms.
(Yes, I admit it, I’m epically lazy, though think that being comfortable with your own social media marketing strategy is super important).
Also… Just a note… One of the worst mistakes I’ve personally made over the years, is spending an overabundance of time creating courses books and blog content, and then never promoting it!
My advice is that if you spend time creating awesome content, then you should consider spending even more time promoting that content so that your business can extract as much authority, attention, and prestige as possible from that content.
