In the following article I’m going to share a funny story about the worst case of customer support I’ve ever witnessed after being a tech nerd for much of my life.
This is going to be a super long post (almost 2,000 words), so I hope that you can spare a few minutes for me to tell you a funny story of epically bad customer support, and why it’s so easy to get noticed by being different.
I’ll also shamelessly brag (lol) about why being super nice can be a strangely effective way to generate leads.
One of my personally favorite ways to generate leads is right here on my blog by the way.
If you want to generate leads by word of mouth, then it’s super important to optimize your blog to generate leads.
This is super easy these days.
If you notice, I have a few links creatively strewn on my blog that promotes my lead capture pages.
I have a welcome bar, a link at the bottom of the page, and a link in my navigational menu.
All three of these links, essentially invite my end users to join my email newsletter.
So in other words, my main blog here, is designed to funnel my readers into my email newsletter.
Before You Can Optimize Your Blog To Generate Leads, You Need An Awesome Email Marketing Funnel, Right?
As a longtime email marketer, I think it’s so important to talk briefly about email marketing funnels, because they are super powerful and help you to build your email list.
It’s also a topic that a lot of prospective email marketers want to learn more about, or maybe aren’t yet familiar with.
So I need to talk briefly about what an email marketing funnel is, and why it’s so important if you want to generate leads via any method.
An email marketing funnel are the basic marketing pages that make up your email lead generation process.
So things like your initial lead magnet, your lead capture page, your thank you page, and any of your email followup sequences, download pages, or even membership pages are generally included here.
The Anatomy Of A Simple Email Marketing Funnel Might Look Like This
- So your end user visits your lead capture page.
- Your lead capture page invites your end user to subscribe to your newsletter, and also offers some awesome bonuses.
- After your end user subscribers, they are then taken to your thank you page, where you personally thank them for being awesome, and remind them to check their email to receive their lead magnet.
- You then can followup with your lead via email, offer them beautiful support, and awesome content that helps them.
This type of funnel will better allow you to generate leads, followup with your leads, and share awesome email marketing content with your leads.
If you’re not familiar with how to build this type of email marketing funnel, then I usually recommend ClickFunnels.
Why ClickFunnels? Because you can use ClickFunnels to create really snazzy looking lead capture pages, membership pages, sales pages, and more.
Regardless of how you design your marketing creatives, once you have an awesome marketing funnel up and running, it’s then much easier to generate leads because your new job becomes to promote your marketing funnel, right?
Once You Have An Awesome Email Marketing Funnel, You Can Focus On Promotion!
A solid email marketing funnel will help you to better generate rapport and authority with your audience.
You can even automate email marketing to your leads, so that you can share your best content automatically.
Once you have an awesome email marketing funnel setup, then you can then focus on promotion.
One of my favorite tips about promoting your email funnels, is right on your blog.
Make it so if anyone ever visits your blog, that you have a couple of prominent invitations inviting your prospects to subscribe!
This is super low hanging fruit, and it’s also relevant to the following content because if you want to put forth a ton of effort offering awesome customer service, then it’s a great idea to make your homepage optimized to generate leads!
That way, no matter how your awesome end users find your website, they’ll be cordially invited to invite your email newsletter, and hopefully they’ll receive a bunch of cool gifts and goodies from you as an incentive!
In any event, let’s talk more about how you can offer awesome customer support, and why this can help spread the word about your business and maybe even help you to generate leads.
How To Brand Yourself By Being Ridiculously Nice. 😉
One thing that we as entrepreneurs should aspire to become, are better leaders so that we may better endeavor to make this planet a better place.
This can be accomplished simply by embracing our love for humanity, and by promising one another that we’ll always help and treat our each other and our prospects with the utmost respect.
If you can be super nice, super respectful, and obnoxiously helpful, then there’s a good chance that your referrals are going to increase dramatically, thereby increasing the number of leads that you generate.
The Reason I say This, Is Because If Your Customer Support Rocks, I Think Your End Users Will Notice!
I would say that the biggest advantage that we small-time-entrepreneurs have is that we’re super small in the first place.
What I mean is, we get to control how we handle our own customer support.
When someone emails you and asks a question about your business, try your best to offer the best customer support possible!
If anyone ever contacts you and they’re frustrated and want help, then go out of your way to be awesome.
So, never take any question that you receive for granted. Treat each and every prospect like they’re the coolest person on the planet, because you never know what types of rapport and good karma your positive interaction might bring.
I’ve had plenty of emails over the years from people who heard about me through a friend. These are the best emails in the world to receive, because it means that someone out there appreciates your hard work enough to tell a friend about you.
Because ask yourself this one question; have you ever been frustrated because the customer service, products, or general interaction with a company was absolutely dismal?
I’m afraid, that your answer is probably “Yes”, which is why, it’s so easy to stand out simply be being awesome, attentive, polite, and cool.
Let Me Tell You An Embarrassing Story About Dismal Customer Service…
I remember one time I was at a very popular electronics store, and I there was an elderly woman who was trying to get one of her electronic devices fixed.
I remember the tech support person was trying to fix it, and they couldn’t, so they basically said the following:
“I know that this device isn’t working here, but you should try to plug it in at your home because it might work there”.
I was utterly shocked at this blatant lie, and to my everlasting shame I never tried to resolve the issue, or call the tech out on their blatantly lie. Because personally, I was just in shock and overwhelmed from this utter and blatant lie. Lol.
Here’s The Good News And My Point; You Can Do Infinitely Better!
Always strive to go out of your way to help any of your customers, your readers, your audience, your clients, your subscribers, students, or absolutely anyone you interact with.
Everyone seems to be stressed out these days.
If you sit in traffic too long you get honked at. If you make a mistake counting change at a market the clerk is visibly agitated.
Everyone is so tense.
I’m not sure why that is. Maybe it’s the economy, maybe it’s the political season, or maybe people are just sick of the weather or taxes are just too high.
Whatever the reason, people are stressed out.
I Propose To You, That If You Go Out Of Your Way To Be Nice, You’ll Make The World Much Better Place.
You’ll even be able to generate leads simply by being super nice.
Let me give you an example.
Whenever someone emails me to ask for help, be it regarding a technical question or a marketing question, I usually spend at least a few minutes brainstorming ways I can help them.
I want nothing more than to help them, big time.
My intention is to always brainstorm like crazy to see how I can “wow” their expectations.
As a result, people are usually very pleased that they asked a question or a comment.
So, the point is, if you can bend over backwards being nice, being cordial, being helpful, and being honorable, there’s a very good chance that you’re going to stick out like a sore thumb. And then maybe, all of that good karma will come pay you a visit later on down the road.
Your End Users Will Be Statistically More Likely To Refer Their Friends To You, Because You Always Leave Them Feeling Good.
Try your utmost best to create positive experiences.
So be super cool. Be super nice. Be awesome to all of the end users you ever interact with, and try to always smile and be polite. You never know what kind of good karma this can bring you and your business.
I know, as someone who has worked in IT and in customer service, that end users can be really rude sometimes, lol.
BUT, never return their angst. Instead, always try to remain professional and helpful. Because in my opinion, being rude is never the right answer and it’s almost always best to smile!!!
Thank You So Much For Checking This Out! You Rock!
At this point I’d like to remind you that you can always contact me directly using the contact button on this blog to ask any questions that you want, because I usually start off every day just by replying to emails and I always read every single email that you ever send me.
Also remember the main point of this nifty little article, lol.
We all know how there’s so much LOW QUALITY support out there these days.
My advice, is to flip that trend and always strive to offer the best support possible.
If you can do that, I honestly believe, that your end users will notice this, thank you, and maybe even tell their friends the next time someone they know may require your services.
In any event I thank you so much for checking this out, and I request that you have an awesome day!
