Here’s Why I Love Email Marketing For Authors!
A lot of authors wonder how they can share their content, promote their books, and generate authority in their preferred niche. The good news is that email marketing can help you accomplish all three goals! That is why I am anxious to share 7 compelling reasons why all authors should build an email list.
# 1 – Email Marketing Is One Of The Coolest Ways For Authors To Promote Books
If you have launched a book, then you know getting your first book sale is a huge uphill battle – especially if you do not have a single penny to spend on advertising. Can you relate?
For that reason, email marketing rocks for authors. If you have an email newsletter base, then it is elementary to send a quick broadcast to your audience to let them know about your new book launch.
Even better, is that you can brainstorm for an entire day and put together an amazing long-term email marketing gameplan stuffed with various campaigns for your book reviews, bonuses, exclusive content, discounts (that expire) – et cetera to launch your book with momentum, enthusiasm, and vigor.
# 2 – Email Marketing Can Also Help Authors To Get More Book Reviews
One of the most depressing parts of launching your book is if your book does not get any reviews. Even worse, is when you get a negative review! That is another compelling reason why email marketing rocks for authors. Whenever you launch a new book – ask your beloved email subscribers candidly for their honest feedback.
Email marketing could also be a great way to give review copies of your book to your most fanatic readers! If your audience loves your content, then your readers may be happy to help you by writing an honest (candid) book review. Who better to help spread the word, and to give you honest feedback than those who subscribed to hear about your updates? An email newsletter is arguably the best source for book reviews! Food for thought.
# 3 – Email Marketing Can Help Authors Skyrocket Rapport, Authority, And Their Brand
One of the coolest things that I love about writing an email newsletter is that I get to interact with subscribers from all over the world.
I get to ask questions, share updates, share my thoughts on my latest projects – and I also get to invite my subscribers to click reply and ask about any problems that they have!
All of this interaction is made possible by email marketing. As an author, you can try your best to craft your emails in a way that helps your audience, interacts one-on-one, while also shares your brand’s best stories, insights, tips, book updates, et cetera.
# 4 – Email Marketing Also Rocks For Sharing Your Author Blog Posts, Guest Posts, And Articles
Are you an author who manages a blog? Or, do you write lots of articles all over different websites and platforms? If so, then your email newsletter is your blog’s best friend.
Each time you write or publish a new blog post, write a quick update to your email newsletter. Give your email subscribers a brief preview of what they can expect in the blog, and invite them to click reply with their feedback – or to leave a comment on your blog.
As a long-time blogger, email marketing is without question one of my favorite methods to help drive traffic to my blog. (Only SEO arguably comes close concerning fantastic blog traffic!)

# 5 – Email Marketing Rocks For Promoting Affiliate Products And For Promoting Your Book And Course Reviews
One dirty little secret that many novice authors have no clue about – is that it is insanely difficult to generate much revenue selling digital books for only $2.99!
For that reason, I cannot recommend launching online courses and/or affiliate marketing enough – even for authors! Affiliate marketing and online courses are potentially brilliant revenue streams for authors.
Affiliate marketing is the perfect complement for writers in all niches because you can partner with those who offer fantastic (and premium) products, courses, software solutions, apps, or services those in your niche might benefit from and even cherish.
Also, if you are a nonfiction author, then you might want to consider teaching an online course. Many (most) of my online courses started as a book first before I transformed the content into video lectures!
By the way – when you join my email newsletter, I share an awesome list of affiliate programs and affiliate networks that you might love to learn about and consider. My email newsletter is free, and I also have other bonuses stuffed inside the first issue. Register to get my impressive, very neatly-organized list of affiliate networks waiting for you within the first issue! 🙂
# 6 – Email Marketing Can Help You Promote Other Authors That You Like
To me, email marketing is the ultimate traffic method for authors. Not only can you promote your written content across platforms, but you can also help promote those you care about – your writing friends, students, peers, mentors, proteges, and colleagues!
In other words – one of the coolest things about being an author is that you will probably encounter other authors that you like and want to help! You may also find that you want to help your author friends and colleagues with their book launch. That is another huge reason that I love email marketing for authors.
If you do not have an email list, then it can be difficult to help your friends promote their books. However, if you maintain an email newsletter with an audience who loves to hear from you – then you can work hard to craft amazing email marketing, book reviews, and other promotional content to help spread the word.
# 7 – Email Marketing Can Also Help Authors To Promote Other Digital Products, Courses, Cheat Sheets, Guides, Coaching, Et Cetera
Email marketing can help authors promote other content that you create. Do you love to write email courses, cheat sheets, guides, reports, coaching programs, case studies, or any other services or products?
Then your email newsletter is an amazing mechanism upon which to share nearly anything that you create as an author.
Whether you want to get the word out about your next webinar, digital stream, Facebook group, TikTok video, or if you want to eloquently tease your readers about new characters in your next book launch – I honestly think that email marketing is paramount, and that is exactly why all authors should build their email list!
Email List Building For Authors FAQs And Email Marketing For Authors FAQs
As a long-time writer and email marketer, I have spent an unheard-of quantity of time developing and practicing various content marketing methods for authors. I am happy to answer some of the most common email marketing for authors FAQs that I have yet to encounter!
# 1 – Does Email Marketing Work For Authors?
Yes, I certainly think that email marketing rocks for authors! I believe that all marketers, small business owners, authors, and entrepreneurs who love to write should learn more about email marketing.
One major reason that I love email marketing for authors, is that as an author, you already love to write! In theory, and hopefully, you cherish and adore writing content! An email newsletter is a clever way to leverage and promote your written word. Therefore, I hope that you can fall in love with email marketing so you can discover the joys of email marketing for yourself. 🙂
# 2 – What Is The Best Email Marketing Tool For Authors?
I think that these days you have nearly limitless email marketing options. I remember the days when there were only a handful of email marketing tools. Now, there are endless – and they all have amazing features.
Email marketing is also insanely low-priced these days. Even if you are an author on a bottom-barrel budget, I would still recommend email marketing because some email marketing apps are 100% free to try. MailChimp and MailerLite have free plans that you can use. I also love AWeber, which offers a free trial plus email marketing templates that rock.
# 3 – What Is A Good Lead Magnet For Authors?
As an author, you have so many exciting lead magnet ideas. The first thing that comes to mind is a free version of your book. Even if you do not want to give away a free version of your book, you could give away a few free chapters!
But, you can go way beyond those ideas if you want. If you are a fiction author – consider creating bonus chapters, alternate endings, or character bios as a lead magnet.
If you are a nonfiction author, consider giving bonus lectures (chapters) going more in-depth into areas not covered in the book.
# 4 – How Can Authors Build Their Email List?
The first thing that comes to mind is to promote your lead generation funnel and your lead magnets throughout your book.
I promote my lead magnets and my email newsletter at least two times in every book; at the beginning and the end of the book. I should probably start promoting more lead magnets in the middle of the book too!
I also contend authors make wonderful bloggers, and I hold that blogging is one of the most economical (and most intelligent) lead generation tactics for authors and writers to consider.
To learn more about my thoughts on this topic, check out a legendary blog post I wrote about email list building tips for bloggers using WordPress.
# 5 – Does Affiliate Marketing Work For Authors?
I fancy affiliate marketing and think that authors should at least consider affiliate marketing. One big strategy I invite you to consider is your audience – and how you can help them.
Ask yourself – how can you help your audience? What type of stuff might they like to buy? What other books, courses, software, or apps might interest them?
If you can answer those questions, then it will be much easier for you to brainstorm potential joint venture and affiliate marketing products to contemplate.
By the way, I also wrote an epic guide on the topic of email drip campaign tips for affiliate marketers that you might want to read if you wish to study my favorite email automation tactics for affiliates.
Conclusion
As an author, you realize that getting the word out about your books is tough.
That is why I am so proud to recommend email marketing and email list building for all authors.
I hope that you had fun reading this content.
Please have a great day!
Cordially…
