I’ve been blogging for a long time and I’m obsessed with email list building. That’s why I’m proud to brainstorm these nifty email list building tips in much more precise detail.
# 1 – Build An Elite Lead Generation Funnel From The Start!
My email list building philosophy is simple. If you’re going to spend time and exert yourself blogging and building an email newsletter, then you may as well do your best job. That’s why you should probably start with an effective email marketing funnel (also known as a lead generation funnel, email list building funnel, et cetera.)
If your email list building funnel is absent or lacking, then you’re missing out on several branding and marketing opportunities. As a newbie or novice blogger, it’s a good idea to embrace these alleged marketing opportunities for the best results possible. Right?
If you’re new to the world of email marketing, then it’s easy to overlook the significance of an effective lead generation funnel. In my opinion, overlooking the critical consequence of your lead generation funnel is easily one of the grandest email marketing blunders.
Here’s Why Your Email List Building Funnel Is Absurdly Important…
A proper lead generation funnel gives your new subscribers the perfect introduction to yourself, your brand, your products, and your email newsletter style.
One of the biggest subtleties of your email marketing funnel is that this process is (likely) the first interaction your email subscriber has with you. Don’t waste this precious moment! Instead, try your best to make a persuasive, and impactful first impression.
A proper lead generation funnel allows you to introduce yourself and your business in the coolest way conceivable. A worthy lead generation funnel can also help you to advertise your products or services.
Here Are Some Of The Remarkable Benefits Of A Proper Email List Building Funnel:
- You can use your list-building funnel to introduce yourself and your business
- Your welcome sequence can share some of your best content automatically
- You can share tutorials, stories, or any content that you wish
- You can advertise, promote, and plug your business, promotions, affiliate links, services, or offers
- You can even automate a fantastic email followup sequence and use that same content into perpetuity
Your Email Funnel Can Help Establish An Unfathomably Strong Relationship With Your Subscribers
If you’re a newbie WordPress blogger, then the relationships that you build with every new email subscriber are key. That’s why the branding and promotional power of a proper lead generation funnel is so critical in my opinion – doubly so for the novice bloggers of the world!
By the way, if you’re not sure how to go about building a solid email list building funnel from a tech perspective, then I always recommend ClickFunnels to my friends and colleagues. ClickFunnels boasts some of the smartest marketers around (in my humble opinion), and their marketing funnel templates rock.

# 2 – Advertise Your Lead Generation Funnel Inside Every Blog Post!
You want to write awesome email newsletter content and build your email list, right? Then please take every opportunity to tell your blog readers about your fantastic and beneficial email newsletter content!
One of the biggest yet most unrecognized benefits of blogging is that your blog serves as the ultimate marketing channel. Your blog can help promote nearly anything you wish. Therefore, every blog post you ever write and publish has the potential to help spread the word about your email list, or your email newsletter.
In other words, you should unquestionably use your blog posts as a method to invite your fantastic blog readers to join your email newsletter! Let your blog readers know about the benefits and value of your newsletter whenever you publish a new blog post by including a clear call to action.
How To Advertise Your Email Newsletter Within Your Blog Posts Without Seeming Desperate Or Needy
One of the biggest anxieties I have about blogging is that I don’t want to annoy my readers! I loathe nearly all forms of advertising. For those reasons, I understand your hesitation if you don’t want to seem like an indigent or needy pest.
However, contrary to popular opinion among other blogging enthusiasts, your blog post will never build an email list by accident, coincidence, or magic. Instead, you must endeavor to consciously and effectively promote your email list. In other words, it’s a lot harder to get people to subscribe to your email newsletter than most blogging gurus will admit! Therefore, you must put forth every effort to advertise your lead generation funnel.
The problem, naturally, is that your blog readers won’t join your email newsletter unless you provide compelling enough reason. One of the best ways to entice your blog readers to join your email newsletter is by offering a lead magnet. But, not just any lead magnet! Your lead magnet needs to speak directly to the core frustrations, passions, or interests of your blog reader. Your lead magnet needs to rock!
Creating a nonchalant call to action that promotes your email newsletter is a piece of cake using WordPress. You can create colored, banner ads, or inline links that promote your lead capture page, marketing funnel, email list registration, or any lead generation funnel that you like.
Later in this blog post, I also reveal a big list of methods to help promote your lead generation funnel using your blog. Stay tuned!
By The Way, Here Are Some Potent Yet Overlooked Benefits Of Brazenly Plugging Your Lead Capture Page Inside Every Blog Post:
- You’ll have a bigger incentive to create blog content because you’ll know that your content also helps build your email list simultaneously
- You can better serve your readers by providing timely (and premium) status updates for email subscribers only
- You can help your subscribers with their pain points, frustrations, passions, et cetera by sharing helpful tips, tutorials, guides, and training
- You can share your premium products, services, affiliate offers, or consulting offers with your email subscribers soon (or immediately) after they register
- I feel less likely to hold back my best content because I know my blog is working hard to promote my email newsletter
Here’s How To Find The Perfect Lead Magnet Idea
If you have no clue what type of lead magnet you should create to entice your blog readers, then just ask yourself what problems your ideal readers experience.
What frustrates your blog reader about your niche? What’s the ONE thing that you can help them solve? Turn this idea into an effective lead magnet that can hopefully entice your end-users enough to act! (And, hopefully, subscribe to your list.)
# 3 – Optimize Your Blog So You Can Earn More Clicks From Your Blog Readers
I’m about to share with you my strategy for advertising my humble email newsletter via the nerdy MrComputerScience.com blog. But first, I want to ask you a few questions and also share how these methods also help to boost my confidence and energy as a blogger. (Energy and confidence are both HUGE as a blogger, by the way.)
One of the best email list building methods for bloggers is to remember the potential power of your blog’s layout, design, and calls to action. Most importantly, never neglect or fail to mention your email newsletter! Instead, shamelessly tell everyone about your email newsletter!
How To Shamelessly Promote Your Lead Generation Funnel Via Your Blog Every Time You Publish A New Blog Post
If you’re passionate about the content of your email newsletter and email marketing content, then you should feel EXCITED to share your content with your blog readers.
You are the master of your domain – literally. Why waste your blogging potential with timidness? Why not serve your blog readers spectacularly by inviting them to join your email newsletter?
Even if your layout isn’t all the snazzy, there are a few tips and tricks you can use to improve nearly any blogging layout or design.
To get started, I’ve outlined a few of the most critical questions for bloggers and email list builders.
Is Your Latest Blog Post Optimized To Convert? Answer These 4 Blog Optimization And Lead Generation Queries:
- Do you have a prominent call to action available for every blog reader who lands on your blog? If so, are you advertising the absolute best lead generation funnel possible?
- Are you cleverly promoting your lead magnets throughout your blog content? Or, are you neglecting to promote your work and failing to invite your readers to subscribe?
- Does your WordPress theme look great on mobile? Can mobile users easily subscribe to your email newsletter? Or, does your blog look like an absolute disaster on a mobile device?
- Is your lead magnet desirable for your ideal prospect, buyer, reader, or client? Or, is your lead magnet poorly optimized and targeted?
Don’t Forget The Magical Simplicity Of An Inline Call To Action!
Another idea and one of the easiest ways that you can promote your email newsletter in every blog post is to insert an inline call to action.
Take the humble MrComputerScience.com blog as an example. I’ve bent over backward to inform you about my legendary marketing newsletter. As you can see, inserting an inline call to action is easy and natural. 🙂
Please look closely upon my blog. You’ll notice other calls to action and invitations to join my newsletter sprinkled throughout.
Here Are A Few Ways That I Promote My Email Newsletter On My Blog:
- I advertise my email newsletter registration page on my navigational menu.
- I advertise my email newsletter before every blog post.
- I advertise my email newsletter after every blog post.
- I advertise my email newsletter in my “About Me” section of my blog.
- I could also advertise my email newsletter via sidebar widgets, welcome bars, et cetera.
- I also promote my email newsletter via inline hyperlinks sprinkled randomly (and sometimes strategically) throughout my blog posts
Another Easy Email List Building Tip For Bloggers:
Another big blog optimization tip is to investigate and double-check the features of your WordPress theme. Does your theme offer any WordPress widget placements that you’re not aware of? Are there any clever places for a banner placement or call to action?
Some WordPress themes also offer nifty banner widget areas, welcome bars, end of post widgets, and other features to help promote your lead capture page, marketing funnel, or lead magnet within your blog in a cool way.
How To Build Your Email List With Premium WordPress Plugins
Also, consider that as a WordPress blogger there are nearly endless amounts of premium email list building plugins to help you place calls to action throughout your content. Thrive Leads and OptinMonster both come to mind as popular and powerful email list building plugins to consider.
One of the big benefits of a WordPress email list building plugin is that they usually work on top of just about any WordPress theme. Therefore, if you already love your WordPress theme, and if you don’t want to change themes, maybe consider an email list building plugin.
Another option is to use a service like AddThis (a product of Oracle) to launch a beautiful and unobtrusive exit-intent popup or welcome bar to help promote your lead capture page. AddThis is handy and allows you to enhance your WordPress blog via a variety of nifty marketing tools.
If you’re curious to study more lead generation tips, then I cordially invite you to read an epic post I wrote about how to generate leads from home. I reveal a handful of my favorite lead generation methods perfect for bloggers.
# 4 – Create Tons Of High-Quality Blog Content To Allure And Enchant Your Ideal Subscriber!
What should you do once you know for a fact that your blog posts rock and your blog is properly optimized to generate clicks and promote your lead generation funnel? Of course, the next step is to create tons of high-quality content.
In my opinion, it’s critically important to create an ongoing stream of high-quality content if you wish to turn your blog into a reliable lead generation asset. Even if your blog is already optimized flawlessly, you still need to entice readers to visit your blog in the first place, right? Your blog content is the bait.
That’s why content creation, content marketing, and a general love of writing are critically important for bloggers.
On this humble MrComputerScience.com blog, I try to publish at least a few thousand words of fresh quality blog post content per week! This tiny blog post that you’re reading right now already has well over 2,464 words, and I haven’t even started the FAQ section yet!
That said, I’m not bragging. Writing frequently is more difficult than most people think. Writing and self-publishing any content with a high frequency requires an absurd overabundance of tiring efforts. However, I am at peace with the topics I write about, and thinking positively about my blog helps to combat writer’s block and procrastination before they take hold. (Peace of mind is critically important for bloggers, by the way, which is a big deal.)

Email List Building For Bloggers FAQ
I’ve devoted much of my life to the art and science of email marketing and blogging. For that reason, I’m honored to share my honest and humble two cents regarding some of the most common blogger FAQs and email marketing FAQs. Please enjoy!
# 1 – How Can I Find Confidence As A Blogger?
First, I want to let you know that if you love the art of writing, then you should have all the confidence in the world! Also, I want to let you know that while blogging is a ton of entertainment and joy, it’s also challenging and requires effort on your part as well.
As a longtime blogger, I’m often embarrassed due to the gurus and amateurs bragging about the ease of blogging. On the contrary, I propose that blogging is a ton of work! Creating blog content regularly over an extended period is challenging, even for the most dedicated writers!
That’s also why I evermore place an unending emphasis on ensuring that you’re happy with how your blog looks and feels! Also, I advise you to choose the topics of your blogs wisely. Only choose topics that you truly love.
What a crying shame if you were to spend years of your life publishing blog content on a topic that you didn’t adore and cherish. I also have a sneaky suspicion that if you don’t love the topics covered on your blog, then it’s more difficult to find the inspiration and impulse to write.
If, however, you’re confident with how your blog looks and feels, and if you love the topics you’re covering, then it’s much easier to find the motivation and confidence to write unending rivers of fantastic blog content! That’s my honest opinion, at least.
# 2 – What Are The Best Free Keyword Tools For Bloggers?
I’m an immense enthusiast of SpyFu and UberSuggest. Both are freemium tools meaning they’re free to try but have enhanced features for premium users. Either of those tools also offers plenty of SEO capability and they’re reasonably priced if you decide to upgrade and use their premium features.
I’m also a big fan of AnswerThePublic. AnswerThePublic rocks if you want to get a big list of questions that people are asking related to different keywords, topics, and niches. I’m a huge fan of answering frequently asked questions! I’m therefore a huge proponent of AnswerThePublic.
Finally, I’m also a big fan of Quora. Quora is another brilliant researching tool to find out what types of questions people are asking related to nearly any keyword or topic. Naturally, as a nonfiction writer and a blogger, I’m a tremendous fan.
# 3 – Is Google Trends Useful For WordPress Bloggers?
Absolutely, yes! I love writing about popular topics. A lot of bloggers try to avoid popular topics out of fear of competition. That said, I want to write about the content and topics that people are actively searching for and studying!
I love Google Trends for bloggers because you can easily see which topics are red hot at any given moment. You can also see which topics are forecasted to lose popularity and are trending downwards.
Sometimes, when I can’t decide on which topic to write about, I’ll enter five or so keywords into Google trends. I’ll then look at how each topic compares popularity-wise. I also pay close attention to how the topic is trending, and I’ll choose the topic that looks like it’s trending upwards.
Google trends will also allow you to see which topics are trending according to geographic regions. Geographic data is a nice touch if you want to create geographically-targeted SEO content for local SEO.
# 4 – Does Email Marketing Still Work For Bloggers?
In my opinion? Yes! Absolutely! Email marketing is one of my favorite blog advertising methods. An email newsletter subscription base is one of the few marketing channels that you control.
For example. What happens if a blog tribe closes? Or, what if I publish an awesome blog post. But, for whatever reason, the search engines don’t like the content and the content never ranks properly. Or, what happens if one of my favorite social media networks goes out of business and shuts down shop? I guess my new blog posts are out of luck in either of these cases!
That’s why I love email marketing for bloggers. Your email newsletter is for those readers who love your content. They subscribed so they could hear more from you! Do your email subscribers the ultimate favor and strive to provide a never-ending stream of fantastic blog content. Sounds nice, but it’s also a ton of work. Are YOU up for the challenge? 🙂
PS: If you want to learn one of my favorite email marketing strategies, then I invite you to read my epic blog post about how to create an email course that your students will love. Please enjoy!
# 5 – What’s The Best Email Marketing Software For Bloggers?
I’m a huge fan of AWeber. I’ve been using AWeber for years and I love how straightforward their email marketing software is to use. AWeber also has awesome support, and they’ve never let me down.
However, there are countless options these days! MailChimp, MailerLite, GetResponse, Convert Kit, Constant Contact and many other options offer tremendous email marketing serviceability.
My advice, as always, is to experiment and investigate to see which company looks and feels the best for you. You really can’t go wrong with any famous or popular email marketing app these days! Just make sure to read reviews and do your homework, and you should be okay.
The cost of email marketing tools is also reasonable. You can find a decent email marketing tool for free, or cheap! Doubly so if your email list is brand new and you don’t have many subscribers.
Conclusion
I can’t thank you enough for reading.
You rock!
I love blogging, writing, and email marketing. That’s why I spent hours of my day documenting my best tips regarding email marketing for bloggers. Because if you’re a WordPress blogger, then you realize how frustrating it can seem to get the word out about your content.
I hope that these email list building methods found you well and that reading was a pleasurable experience.
As always, I invite you to reach out and contact me if you wish to brainstorm, or if you encounter questions or wish to submit feedback. I’m always happy to hear from readers.
Until that time, please enjoy a glorious day. Truly.
Cordially and humbly yours…
